What’s the most drastic change you’ve ever made to your appearance?

In 2003, I paid an ungodly sum for fancy Japanese straightening to my naturally curly/wavy hair. I loved it, and it definitely made me look less “me” than anything else I’ve done to my hair, even though I’ve done various extreme cuts, color, etc. That’s the first thing that comes to mind, but the more obvious answer is that I now weigh more than one hundred pounds less than I did for most of my adult life, which renders me unrecognizable to people who knew me at the larger weight. Sort of nice when you don’t want to stop and chat.
What like Gwyneth Paltrow has done? Wow. did it work for you? how long does it last? I have curly hair which drives me crazy most of the time. I paid to have it X-tenso which was ok but it still needs straighteners. It’s kind of put me off forking out for anything else.
Mine lasted for more than a year, but my hair grows really, really slowly, and was long enough (like bra-strap length) at the time that I think the weight of the hair was sort of dragging it all down, which may have helped. My hair is not in super-tight curls, though, so keep that in mind (I’m not sure how difficult it is to do on hair like that). I’d totally do it again, but it’s a time commitment (it took 4–5 hours to do my whole head) and you can’t wash your hair or put it in a ponytail, or tuck it behind your ears (seriously!) for 48 hours. And, it’s not cheap. So, if someone else wanted to treat, and I could go into hiding for a weekend, I’d be all over it!
ohmigod. I knew it took a while but not being about to tuck your hair behind your ears!…that’s more commitment than I can cope with. Do you also have to use one of those Wooden headrest things Geisha’s used to use to protect their hair while sleeping?
Ha! Thankfully no. Keep in mind, though, that this was three years ago. Perhaps new and exciting advancements have been made in the straightening arena?
