You heard it here first: it’s peanut brittle. Or butter crunch. Pie? There were at least four pie vendors. Maybe cotton candy—we tried jalapeño.
We spent a good chunk of the day (and our stomachs’ real estate) at Artisanal LA and I can also share with you that I have drunk the future and it is Mexican Coke with cold-brewed coffee cubes. Trust.
(Sorry for the lack of photos. There was plenty of eye candy, excellent people-watching and a ton of people milling around with iPhones snapping away. I hate those people. Especially when they are blocking my access to samples of marshmallows.)
And before I forget—my cooking comrades have been kicking out some delicious jams lately. (Speaking of which, there is definitely a jam thing happening.) Moroccan butternut squash stew—file under “Things I Will Eat When the Squash-Hater I Love Isn’t Around.” Cheese straws, spiced pecans and sugared bacon? Can I eat that for dinner? Because I didn’t fill up on brittle.
Okay, that drink sounds amazing. And what’s better is that the Cheese Cave is about– 7 miles away!! In fact, we just discovered it a few weekends ago, and although we did not notice this beverage, we were so happy to know that we too (like all of the hosts of Food Network) have a “little local cheese shop”!
And being the coffee people that we are (25 years of working for Starbucks b/t my husband and I!)- this drink is right up our alley. Thanks for sharing! …and for your wonderful comments.
And– very cool that you and your husband are both bloggers:).
Torrie, you need to go. Like now! I am a devoted coffee drinker, but not a Coke fan. (Real Coke anyway. Diet Coke is another story.) Report back, OK?
Also, speaking of local cheese shops, I discovered ours a few days ago. Wally’s Cheese Box, for anyone on the West side. Note to self: don’t buy cheese hungry.
Can I use espresso instead of cold brew in the Coke/Coffee drink? Scoot over, Jolt, there’s a new kid in town. I’m excited to try it. If only I can find the Mexican coke.
I think you want the smoothness of the cold brew. Not sure if espresso cubes would have the same flavor. It’s easy to cold brew coffee if you haven’t before: you just need a mason jar and a strainer. Like so. As for the Mexican Coke, I have seen it at Costco before. (Not sure if that’s nationwide or just in certain markets, though.) Hit the markets on SW Blvd.?
